Rod and reel combo packages are the easiest way to get started and most economical. And you will certainly get more that just a rod and reel. Most packages come with reel backing, line, leaders, and cases. Some packages even come with a few flies.
One advantage of buying a combo package is that you will know the equipment will be configured for optimum casting. The rod, reel, and line will be matched by “weight” so that the rod efficiently casts the fly line.
Rod and reel combos are normally priced less then individual components so you will be saving some money too.
Combo packages cost anywhere from $30 to $3,000. You get what you pay for. The $30 packages are obviously low quality but just want to give fly fishing a try, pick you up and give it a try.
